Man struck, killed in deadly Reno County crash

BURRTON Kan. (KWCH) The Reno County Sheriff's Department says a man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle after his car got stuck in a ditch.

The accident happened on Tuesday in the 9000 block of south Worthington Rd.

Deputies say a Honda Passport owned by 59-year-old Carl Yoder became stuck in a ditch. His neighbor 64-year-old Steven McLaughlin went to help pull Carl out of the ditch with his Ford F150.

After getting the Honda Passport pulled out, both vehicles were facing south east in the north bound lane of travel to unhook the tow rope.

They had just got the tow rope unhooked and were standing outside their vehicles when a north bound Dodge pickup being driven by 40-year-old Brian Hoopes struck both vehicles in the road.

Both men were struck by the vehicle.

Steven and Brian both had non life threatening injuries. This accident is still under investigation.
