WICHITA, Kan (KWCH) A new college scholarship program worth up to $400,000 has been created to help deserving students in Kansas.
The Rudd Foundation scholarship covers any remaining cost after all other aid, grants and scholarships have been applied and gives preference to first generation and underrepresented students.
To qualify, students must qualify for a Pell Grant, be Kansas residents who attend Emporia State, Fort Hays State or Wichita State University and have a 3.0 or better high schooll GPA.
The scholarship covers tuition and fees, books and supplies, and room and board.
"We aren't just looking for great students; we're searching for those with a real commitment and drive to achieve something larger," said Rudd Foundation President Peter Najera. "Our scholars will appreciate that this isn't just a grant to pay bills, but a lifetime opportunity to achieve their potential if they continue to work hard."
In its first year, the Rudd Foundation is shooting for 20 scholarships and hopes to grow from there.
Students can apply for the Rudd Scholarship at www.ruddfoundation.org/college-scholarships. Applications are due by Sunday, March 11 at 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time.
