Sedgwick County plans to consolidate tag offices

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Sedgwick County is planning on consolidating tag office which means several locations will close.

The Derby Informer reported Thursday that Sedgwick County plans to close two satellite tag offices and Wichita and one Derby.
That could mean just two locations on the east and west sides of Wichita.

Some people feel it's not such a good idea.

"So if you're closing but maybe one or two, they're going to be fully congested all the time, there's going to be long lines...and what about the people with no jobs? You've just put what...maybe 50 people out?"

The Informer also reported the county treasurer signed a lease to run the possible east tag office in the Ultra Modern Patio and Pool building off Kellogg and Edgemoor.

A spokesperson wouldn't confirm to Eyewitness News when the consolidation will happen or where the east side building will be.

One woman worries about her parents' safety if their nearest tag office closes.

"I think it's hard for the older folks to get their tags anyway and it's confusing and the paperwork is tough on them. So make it easy for them, leave their spots where they are so they can get back and forth and get home safely."

The County says consolidating the Tag Offices could save $150,000 a year. A County spokesperson also said there are no set dates for when those Satellite locations will close.
