The cost for a ride on New Year's Eve

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) New Year's Eve means the cost of getting home from bars could be more expensive.

Uber driver Teajai Kimsey said prices could go up two to two and a half times the normal fare if there is a surge.

"The surge happens when there's a lot more riders than drivers signed on at that moment," said Kimsey.

She said if there is a surge, she guesses it will be between midnight and 12:30.

"From a driver's standpoint, we like to make a little extra money, but from the rider's standpoint we don't feel like you should be over charged either," said Kimsey.

ABC Taxi expects wait time to be between 60 and 90 minutes Saturday night, and you can't call to book it ahead of time.

Taxis charge two dollars base price and two dollars per mile.

Uber prices will depend on how far you are going, but you'll get a price estimate before you book.

"Your app will let you know if it's going to be more expensive," said Kimsey.

She said you can download an app called UZURV to book ahead of time and request a driver by name.

"I would be very surprised if someone has a hard time getting a ride tonight," said Kimsey. "A lot of drivers available."
