Three killed in crash involving deer in SE Kansas

Three people are dead after a crash involving a deer in Southeast Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday just south of Iola.

A car was headed north on US-169 while a van was headed south. A deer came out of the ditch, striking the car. The van then struck the same deer.

The driver and two passengers in the van were killed. The 33-year-old driver and 32-year-old passenger were from Chanute, another passenger was 37 and from Walnut.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old from Missouri, was not hurt. She was the only person in that vehicle.

KHP says everyone was properly restrained at the time of the crash.
