Trailer carrying 36 cattle overturns on highway

COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) The Cowley County Sheriff's Office says a trailer carrying 36 cattle overturned at 21st Rd and US-160.

Alan Dean Rickard was driving a semi southbound on 21st Rd when he crossed the center line and then rolled the semi onto US-160 blocking the eastbound lane of traffic.

Deputies say Rickard had a minor injury to his right thigh.

The trailer contained 36 cattle, 30 of which escaped from the trailer and dispersed.

B & L Towing was called to remove the semi and they also contacted people to herd the cattle.

KDOT, Winfield Fire/EMS, and County Road and Bridge assisted with traffic control for the duration of the clean-up process.
