WASHINGTON (KWCH) The White House announced on Thursday that President Donald Trump donated his third-quarter salary to the Department of Health and Human Services, to help the agency combat the opioid epidemic.

Acting Health and Human Services Secretary Eric Hargan said in a White House briefing that the donation shows Trump's sense of duty to the American people.

Hargan says Trump's money will be used on a large-scale public awareness campaign about the dangers of opioid addiction

Trump declared the opioid epidemic a national public health emergency back in October. The decision a move freed states to allocate more federal health-care dollars to fighting and treating the epidemic.
