Volunteers help teens shop for Prom

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Safe and inexpensive is the goal of Project Prom Dress. The all-volunteer organization laid out rows of dresses for teenagers to shop this weekend.

Girls can shop for their dream dress here at a fraction of the cost. The organizer says girls donate and sell their used prom dresses to the organization which then sells them to other girls.

Combined with inexpensive shoes and jewelry, girls can create their entire look for cheap.

Organizer Mary Smith says the idea behind this project was keeping girls who want to save money safe from buying from strangers.

"Somebody was on facebook and they were talking about all these buy sell trade accounts and women selling dresses and having to go hither, thither and yon to meet up people and sell dresses and sometimes they didn't show and sometimes they were unseen places and somebody said wouldn't it be great to have it all in one place," says Smith.

Project Prom Dress continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. and Monday 10 a.m. at the Kansas Star Casino event center.
