World War II Navy Veteran laid to rest after 75 years

MAIZE, Kan. (KWCH) After 75 years, a missing World War II Navy Veteran will finally be laid to rest.

Lieutenant Irvin Rink from Maize has been missing and presumed dead for decades.

The 25-year-old never returned from a mission in the Russell Islands in 1943. Then, in 2008, a diver found the aircraft Rink used to fly upside-down on a reef near Australia.

His family was notified in 2013 that the remains found could be his. Now, he finds his final resting place with full military honors at Maize Park Cemetery.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Broadway Mortuary.
