Walgreens opens Safe Drug Disposal kiosks in Wichita

Pharmacies, police departments and government agencies are working to collect unwanted drugs to help curb the opiod epidemic.

In Wichita, three Walgreens locations now offer kiosks for you to drop off your unused or unneeded medications free of charge.

Walgreens started its Safe Medication Disposal Program back in 2016. The company says it's collected and gotten rid of 270 tons of unwanted medications since then.

The kiosks are open during regular pharmacy hours.

You can dispose of anything from over the counter medications to controlled substances and opioids.

Walgreens says the goal of this program is to reduce the misuse of drugs as well as the number of overdose deaths.

You can find kiosks at three locations in Wichita, and 11 others across Kansas.
