Want a job at Spirit? Here's how to get one

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Spirit AeroSystems announced Wednesday it will add 1,000 new jobs.
So, how do you get one?

The Vice President of Human Resources, Justin Welner says it's good to have some basic manufacturing experience, but it's not required to get a job.

Welner says quality is important because the company will be building 10 more 737's a month. It's one reason why they are hiring 1,000 new employees and building a new facility.

Spirit says it will hire people without experience and train them in a seven-week program, but if you already have at least 1-2 years of manufacturing experience, that's a plus.

One way you are guaranteed to get at least an interview is to go through Wichita Area Technical College's composite program.

Sheree Utash is the WATC's President. She says they offer what Spirit is looking for.

"A sheet metal worker is an eight-week program, a machinist is a 16-week program and our aircraft mechanic is an 18-month program," says Utash.

Spirit says a majority of the jobs will be hourly and in production. WATC says it's been hard to get people through its doors, but it encourages people looking for those jobs to get enrolled now and start training.

Spirit says the jobs will be posted on its website and other job boards. It also uses inside and outside recruiters to find employees. Welner says to check their website because jobs are open up daily.
