WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) At least two children have died in Kansas because of the flu.
It continues to be widespread in almost all of the United States.
A spokesperson for Wesley Medical Center said two children have died there because of the virus.
We reached out to Via Christi Health to see any if it has seen any pediatric flu deaths. A spokesperson for the hospital says it does not release that information.
According to the Kansas Department of Health, influenza has been the "direct cause of death" for 65 people and a "contributing cause of death" for 32 people this flu season. Influenza reporting seasons run from September 1 through May 31 of following year.
The KDHE said as of Feb. 6, no pediatric flu deaths had been reported. That information comes from death certificates which can take months for the department to receive.
The CDC reports there have been 54 pediatric flu deaths for the 2017-18 season.
