WICHITA, Kan. School will be back a little sooner and your child's summer vacation will start a little later next year. That's according to the 2018-19 school calendar the Wichita School Board approved at is meeting Monday.
Enrollment goes from July 30 through Aug. 1 with the first day of school set for Aug. 15. Orientation for sixth and ninth-grade students is Aug. 14. The last day of school is May 23.
The district says the calendar returns to the 190-day schedule with shorter days, back to a bell schedule most parents and students were used to. As a money-saving measure in the last couple years, the district had adjusted to fewer school days with earlier start times and later final bells.
Winter break is Dec. 19 through Jan. 2. Spring break goes from March 11 through 15.
The start and end dates are a week off from the current year where school started Aug. 23 and the last day is set for May 16.
