Wichita South HS honors teacher preparing for military deployment

WICHITA, Kan. David Young, a teacher at Wichita South High School was honored by his school Friday as he prepares for his deployment to the Middle East this month with the National Guard.

Friday, South High held a surprise assembly for Young, who leaves to serve his country abroad in two weeks.

Young's family attended the assembly, including his daughter who made the trip from Ohio to be with him. Members of Young's unit also were there.

The teacher received special gifts including a Wichita flag featuring Wichita South's logo.

Young says his students are encouraging, showing him support as he prepares for his year-long deployment.

Wichita South High School's JROTC Cadets were in full uniform at Friday's assembly and the pep band played the Army theme song.
