Man arrested in Lawrence shooting death

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KWCH) Update Monday, Jan. 1:

A man has been arrested in the shooting death of a woman at a Lawrence apartment. On the call Wednesday night (Dec. 27), police found 30-year-old Lei Ala A. Turner with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Lawrence Police identify the man arrested as Willie Kenith Franklin, 27, of Lawrence. Police say Franklin has been booked into jail on charges of involuntary manslaughter and being a felon in possession of a firearm

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the man had been sought since the death Wednesday night of 30-year-old Lei Ala Turner.

Police have said initial information indicated the shooting might have been accidental but did not explain further.

The Lawrence Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a woman dead Wednesday night.

Police say officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 2300 block of W. 26th Street at 11:10 p.m. They found 30-year-old Lei Ala A. Turner with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators have identified a suspect in the case and are working to locate him.

Police say initial information indicates the shooting may have been accidental.
