Wreaths Across America in Wichita for the first time

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Thousands of wreaths were placed on veteran's graves across the country today but for the first time wreaths were also placed on graves here in Wichita.

Members of the "mary draper chapter" of the daughters of the American Revolution held a ceremony at the Calvary cemetery.

People had the opportunity to purchase wreaths for the fallen and volunteers went around and layed them on graves earlier this morning.

"It's just to honor and to teach our children the meaning, the sacrifices our veterans have provided for us," says Deanna Girrans.

It's apart of a national project called wreaths across America. Last year the project expanded by more than 200 cemeteries.

Wichita was one of more than two hundred stops today. The ceremony included several military units from across the state.
