The Shockers and Jayhawks are ranked No. 9 and No. 10 respectively in the latest Associated Press NCAA Men's Basketball Rankings released Monday morning.
Previous No. 1 Villanova drops a couple spots to No.3 after the Wildcats' loss Saturday to Butler. Michigan State, 14-1, moves up to the top spot. Duke, Villanova, Arizona State and Xavier round out the top 5.
Wichita State, 11-2, is coming off a 10-point win on the road in its American Athletic Conference debut against Connecticut. Kansas, also 11-2, opened its Big 12 season with a 92-86 win at Texas.
The Shockers dropped one spot in the rankings after being No. 8 last week. The Jayhawks moved up one spot from No. 11.
Both teams have tough matchups ahead. The Shockers return home for a Thursday (Jan. 4) contest against conference foe, 12-2 Houston.
KU has its Big 12 home opener Tuesday against No. 18 Texas Tech.
The Big 12 is well represented in the latest AP poll with five teams ranked. West Virginia, 12-1, is ranked No. 6, followed by 11-1 Oklahoma at No. 7, No. 10 KU, 12-1 TCU at No. 16 and 12-1 Texas Tech at No. 18.
The AAC has two teams ranked in the top 25: No. 9 Wichita State and No. 19 Cincinnati.
