Smith wins AFC weekly honors, dismisses Mahomes

KANSAS CITY, MO. (KWCH) -- Alex Smith tells CBS Sports that he hopes Patrick Mahomes sits for a while.

Smith unloaded a series of brutally honest answers in a recent interview, saying he wished the team wouldn't have drafted the rookie quarterback.

"It's a tough pill to swallow," Smith said of seeing Mahomes get drafted. "It's like, man, we could've added this or this or this position or this player."

While Smith's talking about his exit from Arrowhead, he's leaving a legacy in Chiefs Kingdom.

Smith is the Week One AFC Player of the Week, after throwing for 368 yards and four touchdowns in a win over the Patriots.

The Chiefs host the Eagles Sunday at noon for week two.
