Every year, The Wichita Metro Area Salvation Army raises money for needy families in our community with the Mission of Hope campaign. Everyone is familiar with the red kettles and bell ringers stationed outside stores during the busy holiday shopping season, but this year they're changing things up with a couple additions.
Wichita is one of the first locations to launch Season Passes as part of the Mission of Hope campaign. A Season Pass is given to someone who makes a one-time online donation of $20, $50 or $100. The idea is that instead of digging for change every time you see a red kettle, you can make an easy online donation. Season Pass owners are encouraged to wear their button during the busy holiday shopping season to show that they've donated. When they walk past a red kettle, the bell ringers will have the opportunity to thank them for their donation without them having to drop money into the kettle. To make an online donation and receive a Season Pass, visit the Season Pass website.
Another new component of the Mission of Hope campaign is Online Red Kettles. The Salvation Army is using this new promotion to tap into the social media market. Anyone can go to the Salvation Army's website and start their own red kettle. They are then encouraged to invite friends and family to donate to their red kettle using email and social media. All the money raised in Online Red Kettles will help those in need in the Wichita area. To start your own Online Red Kettle, visit the Online Red Kettle website.
The Salvation Army is always looking for volunteers during the Mission of Hope, and that need hasn't changed. Anyone with a free hour or day can volunteer with the Salvation Army. Currently there are several open volunteer positions in the Wichita area, including: Angel Tree Application Taker, Winter Coat Distribution, Angel Tree Toy Distribution, East Side Kettles, Final Prep for Toy Distribution, and West Side Kettles. If you're interested in being a Salvation Army volunteer, visit the Volunteer website.
The Wichita Metro Area Salvation Army continues to feed hungry families, provide presents for needy children, heat the homes of struggling senior citizens, and provide shelter for homeless families in our area.
