Help your child's mental development by reading to them
Reading to your children from a young age is vitally important to their mental development. It’s proven that children who are read to when they are young grow up to do better in all facets of their education. Reading also helps grow your relationship with your children.
When looking for books to read to young children, looks for books with rhythm and repetition, fun illustrations and an interactive story. When you read a book with a rhythm or rhyme, change the tone of your voice to go along with it. If children see their father getting excited about a story, they’ll get excited about it too. This will help keep your kids interested in reading.
Make reading an interactive activity. If you’re reading a book with pictures, point characters out while you read. You can also ask your kids questions about the illustrations and the story. If your children are old enough, you can work together to create a different story using the illustrations. By keeping your kids involved, you can keep them excited about reading. Working together on stories also helps grow the father/child relationship.
Reading to your children is a great way to spend time with them. Schedule reading time every week, and don’t let anything else take priority during that time. When you read, cuddle up next to your kids or have them sit on your lap. Use reading time to really connect and spend quality time together.
