Wichita, KS -

For the past nine years, Union Rescue Mission has provided holiday meals to needy families in Wichita. This year, the Mission plans to distribute 100 meals for Thanksgiving. These “Hope for the Holidays” boxes contain everything needed to make a Thanksgiving meal for a family.

Recipients are struggling families, single mothers with young children and senior citizens on fixed incomes. Most families will pick up their meals at Union Rescue Mission at 2800 N. Hillside. For families who don’t have access to transportation, the Wichita Police Department and men from Union Rescue Mission will deliver meals to their doorstep.

Union Rescue Mission is an evangelical Christian organization dedicated to helping those in need in our community. The Mission operates a 24/7 Emergency Overnight Shelter for homeless men, a 12-month residential program for men recovering from a life of homelessness and addiction, and a community outreach program that distributes food boxes, infant formula and diapers free to single mothers and needy families.

Every evening, the Union rescue Mission takes in homeless men from around Wichita and provides them with a safe place to sleep, as well as a nutritious dinner and a full breakfast in the morning. Men staying at the Mission get a warm shower, access to a laundry facility, and even new clothes if they need them. Most nights a registered nurse is on site to help care for men when they are sick.

For men seeking a change, the Mission operates “New Beginnings,” an intensive 12-month residential program for recovery from homelessness and addiction. The recovery program is biblically-based, and includes a structured curriculum with daily homework, scripture memory, career testing and counseling. At the end of the program, students get help finding a job and a place to live.
