"I never in my wildest dreams would dream Bill Moore would be that type of person," said former classmate Larry McKissack.
Moore is charged in the death of Carol Mould. Mould was found dead inside her Benton home in 2004. Her body was badly burned.
McKissack knew Moore in high school. They graduated together in 1971 from Belle Plaine. "He was super, super great guy." McKissack says Moore was a star football player and the most popular guy in school. They also used to work together at Cessna. "I respected him very highly."
McKissack says he's now struggling to grasp that Moore, a husband, father and former Boy Scout leader is accused of first degree murder. But he says the Butler County sheriff must have some kind of evidence on him to place him in custody. A place he never expected his former classmate to end up.
Deputies arrested Moore Thursday morning at his Benton home. It's about six miles from the Mould's house. The sheriff won't say what led them to Moore, only that it wasn't a tip from the public.
