LANGDON, Kan. (AP) - For the second time in six months, voters have rejected a request for a school bond proposal for the Fairfield schools.
On Thursday, the Reno County Clerk announced that the vote, which was conducted by mail, was 481 against and 397 for the $3.5 million bond issue.
Supporters had said the money would have been used to remodel Fairfield High School and build new classrooms and a second gymnasium. The district wants to consolidate all schools at its Fairfield campus in Langdon.
In April, district residents voted 455-304 against a $9 million bond proposal. Superintendent Mary Treaster says the district will still move first- through fourth-grade students from elementary schools in Arlington and Sylvia to the Fairfield High School/Middle School campus next school year.
