Sedgwick County will continue giving raises based on employee performance. Wednesday the commission discussed suspending its pay for performance policy.
Chairman Kelly Parks and commissioner Gwen Welshimer wanted to give all employees making less than $75,000 a 2% raise regardless of performance. They say its needed to help employees during these thought economic times.
But the other three commissioners say it's bad policy to reward employees who do not meet expectations. Last year 77 employees failed their reviews. By giving them raises, it would cost the county an additional $54,000. Commissioners Dave Unruh, Karl Peterjohn and Tim Norton voted against the change.
Commissioners decided during the budget session earlier this year that those making more than $75,000 won't get raises in 2010. That includes the commissioners.
