For a town of about 400, Lucas has a lot happening.  That's why we decided it should be the fourth stop on our 'One of a Kind' road trip.  "Lucas truly stands out because of the town's focus on artistic creativity.  The small community has worked hard over the years to become a destination.  The whimsical art there makes it one of the most 'one of a kind' places in the state.  We couldn't pass it up," said news director Chad Cross.

More than 60 people got involved on Facebook, encouraging Michael Schwanke, Jenn Bates and Merril Teller to come for a visit.  "Lucas is a one of a kind, colorful town full of kind warm people. It's a unique community nestled near Wilson Lake the clearest lake in Kansas. We have the Flying Pig, Brant's Meat Market, The Garden of Eden. Truly a Grassroots Treat," Jessica Mikulecky posted.

Our crew is getting a first hand look at all of the grassroots efforts happening in Lucas.  There are several attractions, such as the Garden of Eden and the World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Things.  Lucas also has a hardware store that's been operated by the same family for 65 years.  And if you think that's impressive, Lucas also has the oldest continuous grocery store in Kansas Troy's Grocery.

Another interesting fact about Lucas is it doesn't have a police department and the sheriff isn't very close.  But the community has no crime.  Just one more reason Lucas is 'One of a Kind'.

Watch our reports on the community during all of our newscasts on the Kansas CW and KWCH 12.  And you can still get involved, we will be visiting one more town.  Head to our Facebook page and tell us what makes your community 'One of a Kind'.
