Their friend died in a car accident 2 days after Christmas, now a group of Wichita hockey players are raising money for the victim's unborn son.

Devan Krausch was one of two people killed in a car crash December 27th near 13th Street and 135th Street West. Police say the driver hit a culvert, went airborne and then struck a power pole.

Krausch was home on leave from his Marine base in California. He found out earlier that day his pregnant fiance was having a boy. Bentley is due in May.

"He was excited," said friend Nick Clary. "I remember seeing him that Wednesday and that's all he could say. That's all he could talk about."

Krausch grew up playing Hockey in Wichita. He was a key player on the city's Junior Thunder Ice Hockey League.

"One thing I will always remember about Devan is that effortless power in his skating," said former teammate Drew Hutton. One of the fastest skaters I've ever had the pleasure of sharing the ice with."

On Saturday, January 5th, his former players are hosting a drop in game to raise money for Krausch's family and future son. The event will be held at the Wichita Ice Center from 6-8pm.

But their support will continue long after Saturday's game.

"Baby Bentley is going to have a lot of crazy uncles to deal with," Clary said. "Teaching him how to play, that's one of the first things I want to do when he is old enough get him on the ice. That is exactly what (Devan) would have wanted."

A memorial fund has also been set up for Devan Krausch's family.
