Storm Team 12: Blizzard headed for Kansas - Monday

Today will be the calm before the storm.  Patchy freezing fog this morning with increasing clouds throughout the day.  Highs will range from the the 20s to lower 40s.

A Blizzard warning has been posted for southwest Kansas, while a winter storm warning covers most of central and eastern Kansas from tonight through Tuesday.  This next winter storm will bear down on Kansas especially in the Monday through Tuesday time frame. The main difference between this storm and its predecessor will be the wind!  Northerly wind gusts between 40-50 m.p.h. will be common, creating a major threat of considerable blowing and drifting of snow (especially on east-west highways/roads).  Travel will be treacherous and very dangerous during the height of the storm.

Central and south central Kansas look to be under the gun with the possibility of 8-15 inches of snow.  Most of western Kansas will be 4-8 inches or less but the very strong north winds will cause blizzard conditions.  Again, travel late Sunday night into Monday will be treacherous, if not impossible in areas.

Light snow will end in eastern Kansas Tuesday but the wind will still be howling.  More blowing and drifting of the snow will occur even as the accumulating snow has ended.
