City leaders in Bel Aire broke ground on a new industrial park Monday morning. Once complete, the Sunflower Commerce Park will span 800 acres.
The city plans to develop the the first 155 acres of the 800-acre industrial park as "shovel-ready" for companies to begin building. Roads and utilities are under construction and set to be finished by the end of the year.
Bel Aire Mayor Harold Smith, Sedgwick County Commissioner Dave Unruh and the owner of Century Manufacturing were on hand for the groundbreaking at Webb Road and 50th Street North.Century Manufacturing is the first tenant for Sunflower Commerce Park. Century bought three acres in July and is building a 36,000 square-foot building to house its manufacturing, warehousing and office space needs. That facility is expected to open in January.
