Copper thieves have found another target. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says it’s seen an increase in copper thefts from irrigation systems.
Thieves are targeting the pivots on irrigation systems, stripping the copper wire to sell for scrap.
There have been at least six confirmed thefts from irrigation pivots in Northwest Sedgwick County. The thieves caused more than $18,000 in damage and made off with more than $15,000 in copper.
The Sheriff’s Office wants those living in rural areas to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity, especially near irrigation systems.
Anyone with information about the thefts is urged to call Sheriff’s Investigations at (316) 660-5300, or Crimestoppers at (316) 267-2111
