For What it’s Worth on this January 17th--- Lost in the mind-numbing 22 turnovers at Evansville was the fact that Wichita State was coming off their two highest point totals allowed this season. So, it must have been good for Gregg Marshall to see his team lockdown Illinois State for 20 first half points last night. Carl Hall’s first action in a month was productive; the senior played 23 minutes pulling ten rebounds, he missed his only two shots and appears to have a ways to go offensively with that still sore right thumb—but his presence provided a boost and the loudest ovation of the night.

2 in a row---

Jake White has played his best two games of the season back to back. The sophomore scored 11 points last night after eight at Evansville where he also had 10 rebounds. After a slow start to the season, White could become a nice variable on this team.

Share and share alike—

The Shockers had only 12 assists and 22 turnovers at Evansville, last night they shared the ball nicely, with 19 assists on 27 baskets. It might surprise you, however, to learn that Tekele Cotton, with seven and Fred Van Vleet with six lead the way. Sixteen turnovers is still too many, it stunts their efficiency and rhythm.

How do they do that?

You can never go wrong with Frisbee catching dogs, but the best halftime show in college hoops is ‘Quick Change’. I must have seen them a half dozen times over the years and I’ve never grown tired of it. I defy anyone to tell me how they do it. If you’ve seen them you know what I’m talking about, if you haven’t—check them out on ‘You Tube’. Amazing.

‘Cats streaking---

K-State got 21 points from Rodney McGruder in yawning their way through a 67-54 win over a bad TCU. It was the seventh straight win for the Wildcats who, at 14-2, are just two wins away from tying their best ever start to a season.

Who?

Did you know that the Australian Open was going on? You know-- the tennis tournament. Did you know that someone named Victoria Azeranka is not only the top seed, but the defending champion down under? I used to be a moderate fan of tennis, but I can no longer tell most of the players without a program. I’m not sure how that that happened, but I can’t say I miss it.

Kelly plays his chips right in Philly---

So Chip Kelly will take his spread offense to the National Football League with the Eagles. It’ll be interesting to see if Kelly maintains his zone read approach to offense, especially since he’s inheriting a young drop back passer in Nick Foles. Ironically, Michael Vick, thought to be on his way out in Philly, would appear to be a perfect fit. Foles has tremendous potential in the right offense, but will he be a good fit for what Kelly wants to do in a league that’s running more and more college looks on offense.

Tomorrow in this space---

I’m going to check and see if my on-line girlfriend really exists, as I try to figure out maybe the most bizarre story I’ve ever heard of. Duped, or trying to dupe? The Manti Ta’o dilemma.
