Sedgwick County Treasurer, Linda Kizzirie says the new tag office computer system has been running smoothly for the month of July. May and June drivers were granted a grace period due to computer glitches.
July tag notices were mailed out 45-days in advance, leaving enough time for drivers to get in and register. The process is simple, says Kizzirie, either mail it in, fill out the on-line form or if time allows, walk into one of their four offices in Wichita.
For those with last names starting with J, L, or K, Kizzirie says time is merely out to register on time. Kizzirie suggests those drivers walk into the one of the tag offices. She says the best time to go is 9:30a.m. to 10:00a.m. or 3:30p.m. The tag office is busiest during the noon hour.
The number of people in line at 10:30 this morning by location:
- Derby location - 7 in renewal line, 13 titles
- 21st and Maize location -12 in renewal line, 25 titles
- Brittany Center location - 25 in renual line, 30 titles
- West Murdock location- 35 renewal line, 35 titles
There is not a set fee for the renewal of tags as the price depends on the type of vehicle that is being registered. For those drivers who were unable to register or renew their tags, there is a small interest penalty of $1.00-per month that they are late.
Kizzirie said that she recently had a costumer renew early because they knew they would be on vacation. Her advice, get it in as soon as possible. If they receive the request today, they will have it processed as soon as this afternoon. Drivers have the option of dropping their request off and then pick it up before 5:00p.m.
