Who would have thought it would come to this--Facebook video of Pete the Rhinoceros on a jet ski?
Pete has his own Facebook page and is the official rhino of Marion which is the self-proclaimed rhino capital of Kansas.
But aside from Pete the live-action mascot, there are all sorts of other rhinos in town. The local chamber of commerce takes orders for cement rhino statues and sells them to be decorated and displayed outside offices, stores and homes.
Marion became a habitat for rhinos because rhinos were the passion of a popular resident named Pete Peterson who loved the town's Chingawassa Days celebration.
"We lost Pete the second year of our festival to cancer," chamber director Margo Yates says. "So we decided to make the rhino our mascot for our event and name him Pete."
Then, the rhinoceros craze took off. There are now about 100 rhinos in Marion and the number continues to grow.
