Authorities in Oakley are investigating a grain elevator collapse. Logan County Emergency Manager Pappy Lies says the collapse happened at the Frontier Ag Co-Op just before 2:30 Tuesday.
Lies says the concrete bins collapsed spilling corn onto the railroad. It caused eight or nine empty cars to derail on the Union Pacific line. No one was injured and all company workers are accounted for.
Oakley resident Jim Ball says when the grain elevator started to collapse, it sounded like a low flying jet. He was in back of the grain elevator when it happened and rushed to the front. Once in front, he saw a large hole and corn spilled onto the ground.
For safety purposes, the area surrounding the elevator have been secured and the public is being asked to stay away from the area.
