This is no "Charlotte's Web." But Porky does weave one heck of a story.
It starts with Chloe, the Chihuahua.
"He was running around chasing my little Chihuahua,” Jim Hinkle said.
For about two hours Thursday morning, Hinkle says Chloe played with her unlikely friend.
"I thought where did he come from,” Hinkle said.
Hinkle says the pig must have crawled underneath his fence. Once in his backyard, Hinkle fed the pig a loaf of bread.
"He's a good size pig. Fat. Juicy,” Hinkle said.
But he was gone--maybe for good reason-- before Hinkle could help him anymore.
"He's a pig on a run,” Hinkle said.
But we found him.
"I call it Porky. Pork chops,” Tom Trosper said.
He was a few blocks away in Tom and Janet Trosper's backyard. They found Porky around 1:30 p.m.
"My wife went across the street and called it. It came to her, just like a pet dog,” Trosper said.
The Trospers felt sorry for the sassy swine.
"He can't just walk around the streets and besides that, it's just too cold. He'll freeze to death without cover,” Trosper said.
Animal control will be by Friday morning to pick-up Porky. Neighbors say the owner lives somewhere in the neighborhood, but is gone for the holidays. The owner could face a misdemeanor for Porky's wandering ways.
"Either cited or if the animal is impounded then they would have to pay the fees to get it out of the impound,” Officer Gretchen Garrett with Animal Control said.
Regardless, Porky will be taken care of. He has a shed to sleep in and plenty of food to eat.
There are regulations to owning a potbellied pig. Animal Control says you have to have a permit. It has to have its "pseudo rabies" shot. It has to be less than 80 pounds. And, you must have it on at least one acre of land. Animal Control will investigate all of this once it tracks-down Porky's owner.
