(ATWOOD, Kan.)—
It may be hard to believe, but there's a little piece of Atwood Kansas in almost every place across North America. "We've had a dog in every state except for Rhode Island. We've also had dogs in Canada and even Mexico," Mike Lankas with Lankas Labs. For two decades, the Lankas family has bred water fowl, upland and companion dogs. Their reputation even spans the Pacific Ocean."I was surprised when I had two guys from Hawaii call me this past year. They were getting transferred to Fort Riley. They said they heard that if they were going to get a lab, they had to come here. That's always a good feeling," he said.
Custom training and quality breeding is what has made the Lankas family a 'One of a Kind' in Kansas. It's also what's made their hunting dogs pretty hard to come by. "We've got 34 pups and we have all but one sold. Sometimes I have a whole litter sold before they are born. I even have deposits for next fall, a year out from now," Lankas said.
