TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Gov. Sam Brownback is helping raise money for 14 Republican candidates for the Kansas Senate by playing host for a large fundraiser.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports Monday evening's event at a downtown Topeka law firm was also sponsored by influential lobbyists and lobbying firms. The list of sponsors also includes a political action committee with ties to Brownback.
The invitation asked those attending to contribute either $500 or $1,000 to each of the 14 Senate candidates.
Most of the candidates are either conservative Republicans running for open seats or the winners of GOP primaries against moderate incumbents.
Brownback spokeswoman Sherriene Jones-Sontag called the fundraiser an opportunity to bring Republicans together.
