Wichita police have identified the 16-year-old who was shot and killed during a robbery on Thanksgiving Day as Giorgio Rock. Police also released more information about what happened that night.
They say the victim and a 19-year-old man went into the KC Gas and Grocery Store in the 1100 block N. Broadway Thursday evening. A third 19-year-old suspect waited outside. Police say they were armed with pellet guns. They say the guns looked very real and the clerk was convinced they were handguns.
Police say the first suspect went under the counter, confronted the clerk and took money from the register. They say a confrontation followed and the suspect pointed the pellet gun at the clerk and pushed him.
The clerk then grabbed a handgun behind the counter and fired shots at the suspect. More than one shot was fired but police aren't how many were fired at this time. The 16-year-old was hit while the other suspect ran out of the store and took off with the third suspect standing outside. Police later found the two suspects and arrested them.
The same gas station was also robbed on November 16. Police say it appears Rock was involved in that robbery as well. In that case, a clerk was leaving the store and was forced back inside by two suspects.
The clerk involved in the November 16 robbery was not the same as the clerk working Thanksgiving night. Police say the clerk working Thanksgiving night had recently started working at the gas station.
