The League of Women Voters says there are not enough female judges in Sedgwick County.

The group's Wichita branch launched a television ad campaign Monday drawing attention to that fact that Sedgwick County has had just five female judges in the past 20 years. None are currently serving.

The Leage of Women Voters isn't encouraging people to automatically vote for women, but to instead pay more attention to who the candidates are.

There are 28 District Court Judges in Sedgwick County.

A study by the group ranks Kansas 47th in the nation in terms of diversity on the bench.

In Kansas, women make up only 17-percent of state judgeships and 20-percent of federal judges in the state.

Nationally, women make up 23-percent of federal judgeships and 27-percent of state judgeships.
