Wichita police release new information about an officer-involved shooting that left one person hospitalized. It started near Kinkaid and Broadway around 7:00 Sunday evening.

An officer spotted a stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over. The driver sped off, sparking a chase that reached speeds up to 100 mph in a residential area.

Police say the suspect eventually ditched the car ran away.

A few hours later, officers were called to a house in the 2500 block of W. Dallas after the homeowner reported someone hiding in her shed.

Officers started chasing the man.  That's when police say the man pulled out a gun and fired a shot at one of the officers.  That officer returned fire, striking the suspect three times.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he's listed in serious condition.

No one else was hurt.

Police say the suspect has a lengthy criminal history and wanted on a warrant for a federal weapons violation.

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.  He has been with the WPD for two years.
