Whether it's getting involved with the city wide garage sale, shopping at the hometown pharmacy or grabbing a bite to eat at Dave's Pizza people in Coldwater are proud to support their community.    "The key to this community is the people.  We take care of each other, we work together, pray together, cry with each other, cook for each other, cheer together and laugh together," Robin H Allen posted on our Facebook wall.

Allen was one of 60 people to encourage Eyewitness News to come for a visit.  Between the comments and more than 50 'likes' on Facebook, Coldwater became an obvious choice for the first stop on our road trip.  "You can tell from the people of Coldwater they take pride in their hometown.  Many of them shared with us how the community has shaped their lives, and they’re happy to raise their kids in a small town atmosphere.  It was the perfect way to start our tour of Kansas.  We’re grateful for the warm reception we received from Coldwater," said News Director Chad Cross.

About 800 people live Coldwater.  It's about two and a half hours south west of Wichita in Comanche County.  It has a historic theatre on Main Street.  The Chief Theatre was recently restored and is now run by volunteers.  Another project happening in town, is the renovation of the city lake.  Since it's been so dry, the lake has become too shallow for many of the water activities people enjoy.  The community is spending $750,000 to put in a new dam so residents can continue swimming and boating.

Tonight during every one of our newscasts on both KWCH and the Kansas CW, we'll take you to Coldwater.  Merril Teller, Jenn Bates and Michael Schwanke spent the day learning why this community is so passionate about where they live.  Reporter Jim Grawe also showcases the new theatre.

Stay with kwch.com for behind the scene photos and videos as we continue our 'One of a Kind' road trip.  There's still time to get involved.  Go to our Facebook page, hit the 'like' button and then 'like' the town where you live.  We will decide each day where to go next.
