Garden City hopes renovating an 84-year-old theater will help bring people downtown.
A private developer, Mark Pamplin, wants to turn the old State Theater into a 400-seat theater-in-the round. The theater would host year-round performances. Pamplin says this could attract more people and businesses to the area.
"Maybe we'll start seeing some restaurants opening up and bringing life back down here that hasn't been down here for a number of years, since all of our shopping has moved to the east side of town," said Pamplin.
Pamplin says the renovations will cost about $3 million. He says it would be funded entirely by private investments.
