(DODGE CITY, Kan.)—
A community wide effort in Dodge City to end school bullying goes district wide.
Members of the Kiwanis Club visited every school in Dodge City with this message, "it's okay to be a nerd".
As part of the program students were awarded for bringing up their grades and maintaining straight A's. Special speakers assured students not to fear bullies. Teachers nominated one student from each classroom who exemplifies the characteristics of a "terrific kid". Hugo Garcia won overall.
"I felt amazed that I had won all these awards and so I started crying tears of joy," said Garcia.
Every student who was awarded received a backpack filled with school supplies and coupons.
