DIGHTON, Kan. (AP) - Residents of Lane County no longer have to be members of private clubs to buy mixed drinks in public.
Lane County residents voted 476-401 last week to allow liquor-by-the-drink in public places without the requirement that an establishment makes a certain amount of its money from food sales.
The Hutchison News reports that before the vote, mixed drinks were allowed only in members-only clubs.
Before the vote, Lane County was one of 18 Kansas counties that did not allow liquor-by-the-drink.
The Kansas Department of Revenue says 25 other counties allow liquor-by-the-drink without the requirement that some portion of a business' gross receipts be from food sales.
