They're a picture-perfect example of small town love: Jared Estes and Paige Johnson.
"We were high school sweethearts," Jared says.
They were two teens growing up in Bucklin, Kansas, about 30 miles southeast of Dodge City. Both go to Bucklin High, but they didn't really know each other, then it happens.
"The way we got together was very funny actually," Jared says.
It's was Jared's senior year. As handsome as he is, it's no surprise he was up for homecoming king. Paige was a junior, a pretty cheerleader, who was supposed to announce Jared as the winner.
"It turned out, Paige had announced the wrong name," Jared says. I had actually won and she was looking at the card with my name on it. Paige was devastated. She ran back to the girls' lockeroom and was in tears."
It probably seems like these two would never talk again. But that's far from true. After the homecoming mistake, Jared took a chance and took Paige for a drive through the country and asked her to the homecoming dance. "Ever since, there's never been a question of if we're going to be together," Jared says.
And they were together.
Letters kept them close even when Jared went away to college, while Paige was still in Bucklin. The letters and everything else led the two to fall in love and Jared to hide an engagement ring inside Paige's favorite candy.
"She opened it up," Jared says, "and took out the ring and she looked at it and was like Jared look, like she won a prize from the Fun Dip company. And I was like, wow Paige awesome! So will you marry me -- And she was like no, no , no uh, oh and she realized and it was pretty neat."
A year later they were married, with a wedding any couple could dream about. "Paige was just so beautiful," Jared says. "She always was, on our wedding day it was so surreal, because everything went like clockwork. And everything went by so fast, because it was so much fun."
Their honeymoon was fun too. They went on a trip to Hawaii, where they rode atv's, played on the water and made memories to last a lifetime.
"It was the best time of my life, for sure," Jared says. "That week was so great. I knew there was no way we could get tired of each other after spending that much time together."
But little do they know, the picture-perfect couple won't have that much time to spend together.
"It was like waking up in hell is what it was like," Jared says. "I don't know what hell's like, but that's what I would imagine there was fire and it felt darker than dark."
They're fairy-tale life's about to take a horrific turn.
