(WICHITA, Kan.)—
The United Way kicked off its annual fundraising campaign Thursday morning at Century II with former NFL player Shane Nelson. The former Buffalo Bills linebacker spoke to a crowd of about 800 people about overcoming obstacles.
The United Way has a fundraising goal of $15.1 million this year to support their mission to improve lives by mobilizing resources to meet community needs. The goal is just $100,000 more than last year.
The organization is also planning a student campaign kickoff this afternoon at the Kansas Hall of Fame at the Wichita Boathouse.
More than 100 students are expected and will listen to Nelson during lunch.
