Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc. today announced the launch of the first mobile digital television (DTV) services in Wichita. The transmission tower that carries Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc. signal to homes has been retrofitted to deliver a Mobile DTV signal. That signal has the ability to deliver local, digital broadcasts on multiple mobile devices, without the need for additional Wi-Fi or data fees.
The Mobile DTV platform enables Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc. stations to deliver live, digital content to mobile and video devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptop computers, and personal navigation devices.
"This is part of the broadcast industry's process to create content and make it available on mobile devices. Industry groups say that there are limited choices for adapters, televisions and tablets but should be widely available by Christmas 2012. Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc. launch of Mobile DTV is among many firsts in its near 60 years of history. KWCH was the first television station in Kansas to begin broadcasting on July 1st, 1953 under the call letters KTVH Channel 12, first to include color programming in 1966.
