Guard your garden: Animal repellents take cue from science

People call them pests, varmints or invasive species, and worse. Ever since mankind has cultivated crops, they've been turning our food into theirs. Man has chased them, poisoned them, designed ways to protect crops. But the pests adjust and persist.
