NEW YORK (PIX11)—Saturday's Powerball jackpot is now a whopping $325 million, the fourth largest haul in its history.
If your ticket matches ALL five numbers plus the Powerball number, you'll walk away with a lump sum jackpot of $212.8 million. Sorry, folks! That's BEFORE taxes. However, if the lucky, instant millionaire chooses the annuity option, he or she will receive 29 annual installments equal to the full $325 million, a win-win for that lucky person.
Lottery officials say the thrill of playing Powerball has increased, since the ticket price went from $1 to $2 in January. More incentives for people to play are the new $1 million second prize and a higher beginning pot of $40 million.
The three biggest jackpots so far are: a $337 million one in 2012; a $340 million haul in 2005; and a $365 million prize in 2006 -- the largest to date.
Powerball is played in 42 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Only California, Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska, Mississippi, Alabama, Utah, and Wyoming DO NOT participate in the multi-state game.
