It's a question we get with every administration...why do we sometimes refer to a President as Mister?
And the answer is the same each time..it's a sign of respect, not disrespect.
The protocol is that the first reference we say President Obama.
It WOULD be disrespectful for us to just use his last name after that, so we say Mister Obama.
Understand, if it were anyone else, let's say a guy named Jones in the story, the first time we would refer to him with his full name, Bob Jones, or Ronnie Jones, whatever.
After that, it would just be Jones.
But you don't do that with a president, you always use a title, president, or mister.
Just so you don't think it's a political thing, let me say again that we have gotten the same complaint as far back as I can remember, with Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, both Bushes, and now with President Obama.
