Last weekend, KWCH aired an infomercial paid for by the National Rifle Association.
As you might guess, we've had some calls complaining about the content of the show.
Here is the response from KWCH president and general manager Joan Barrett.
Thank you for your comments regarding the NRA 30 minute paid commercial announcement. As a commercial television station we accept many commercial announcements of various lengths that offer products and services as well as differing views of multiple topics. Some topics you may agree with and others you may not. We review these commercials and if we find a false statement or an illegal product we will reject the advertisement and will not air the commercial. After reviewing the NRA commercial, we determined that the statements although controversial were not false or illegal. Opinions expressed during any extended length commercial announcement may not necessary reflect the views of the management and staff of the station and we make full disclosure at the beginning and end of these broadcasts making it clear that the program was a paid commercial announcement.
